They get lots of use from this book. My kids love to play scrabble & this book was given as a gift.
The word "everything" made me think that.I would order from this vendor again. This is a very helpful book and it came in a timely manner. I wish however that it included a scrabble word dictionary.
Filled with teaching tips, word lists and skill-builders, as well as some pretty interesting (though dorky) Scrabble stories and trivia, this book is a must for anyone serious about getting better at Scrabble. A fantastic book that will improve your game and change how you score.
Even a quick skim through through some of the chapters can result in an increase of 50-100 more points in your average game. Important learning strategies and tips are shared with the reader which makes one realize just how intricate and challenging the game of Scrabble can be. It's a great reference that I return to often. If you love Scrabble and would like to venture beyond the kitchen table format and play in local tournaments, on-line, etc. this book can be a great help.
I took it back the next day before I wasted anymore time with it. After spending 3 times the 10 minutes of allotted time for the exercise I decided to check the answer and found a word containing a Q, which was not on the rack or the board setup for the exercise. I am a decent player (1400+ rating on Scrabble Beta and I almost always score over 300) but I couldn't for the life of me solve this exercise.
After spending less than an hour with it I realized that this is a poorly edited guide. Annoying but not unforgivable. I picked this book up for the puzzles and the general strategy.
A few exercises later I was stumped. If you are just looking for Scrabble strategy I guess this book is fine, but it isn't updated and it doesn't even adhere to the basics of Scrabble in its exercises. The first puzzle that I tried had a setup with more H's in it than come in a scrabble set.
I overlooked this and inserted a blank for an H.
